A companion for the whole of a life.

Flourishing can be learned, and no one should have to learn it alone. ACCOMPANY puts people beside you and skills in your hands, from the year before your studies begin to long after your last working day, and along the paths a life takes at any age.

Any university, college, school or organisation can offer it to its people. It follows the person, not the institution.

The big picture

Five ways of walking beside a person, across nine stages of life.

Courses meet every stage of life. Coaching stays beside a person for as long as they want it. Mentoring gives the student years their own home. And two certificates let the people we accompany become the ones who accompany, and teach, others.

The ACCOMPANY big picture Nine life stages from before the gate (16 to 18) to elderhood (65 and older); beside them, paths that can happen at any age (postgraduate study, love and partnership, parenting, caring for someone); and five bands beneath: mentoring across the student years, courses and toolkits across every stage, coaching for life, the Certificate in Accompaniment Coaching that turns members into coaches, and PHECA that equips people to teach the courses elsewhere. An arrow loops from elderhood back to the start. The arc is a loop: those further along accompany those just starting. The stages are the order things tend to arrive in, not a timetable: people join at any age. Beside them run paths that belong to no single age, such as postgraduate study, love and partnership, parenting and caring for someone, each with its own crossings. The stages and paths page walks through every one.

How it works

Five pillars, one companion.

Courses for every stage of life

For anyone, at any age
Learn at your own pace

Each stage of life has a course written for its questions. Others open when life calls for them, hold true at any age, or follow what a person loves.

Coaching for life

For graduates, alumni and anyone who wants someone beside them
Conversation first

When study ends, accompaniment does not. A FlourishIQ coach walks with a person through a first job, a first team to lead, the busy middle years, the handover and beyond. Every session starts with a real conversation; practice follows from it.

  • Coaching journeys for real life: stress and boundaries, anxiety, grief and change, values and meaning, work and money, sport and performance, confidence, and more.
  • The right next step: the coach sees which courses and practices fit what the person said and where they are in life.
  • Coaching that knows its limits: when someone needs more than coaching, the coach connects them with professional care.
  • One page for the person being coached: what was agreed, practices for the week, and a direct line to the coach.

Mentoring in the student years

For students and the senior students who mentor them
Belonging from week one

In the student years, accompaniment has a natural home: a small mentoring group with a trained senior student, from the first week. A student can have more than one mentor, one for their studies and one for life on campus.

  • Belonging from the start: a welcome that asks how each newcomer is arriving, and a group that meets regularly all year.
  • Help that finds students early: when a student seems to be struggling, their mentor is invited to reach out.
  • Mentees become mentors: the students who were accompanied become the ones who accompany. It is the first place a person learns to walk beside someone else.

Certificate in Accompaniment Coaching

For graduates, mentors and professionals who want to coach
CAC

The people we accompany become the people who accompany. The Certificate in Accompaniment Coaching (CAC) is an intensive, assessed course that trains FlourishIQ coaches, so that coaching can reach far more people than any one team could.

  • The conversation first: the coaching stance and the conversation models, practised until they are natural.
  • The coaching journeys and the library: which session, which course and which practice, and when.
  • The ideas behind the courses: the science of wellbeing, resilience, emotions, purpose and healthy living.
  • Knowing the limits: when and how to connect a person with professional care.
  • Supervised practice: coaching real clients, with a supervisor beside you.

Graduates coach their own clients on FlourishIQ, with the same guides, courses and tools.

PHECA: teaching the courses

For lecturers, student-life staff, trainers and facilitators
Learn it · live it · teach it

The Positive Higher Education Certificate for Africa (PHECA) equips people to teach flourishing, not only to learn it. Certificate holders present the courses to their own students and groups, with the slides and facilitator guides supplied.

  • Fourteen modules on the science of wellbeing and the craft of teaching it, with practice teaching and a portfolio.
  • A student pathway over three to four years, from before arrival to the final year, taught by people who know their students.
  • Beyond universities: the same courses serve schools, firms, clubs and community groups, taught by the people who already hold them together.

The CAC multiplies the people beside a person; PHECA multiplies the places where flourishing is taught.

What holds it together

What makes five pillars one companion for life.

A lifelong promise is kept by people, rituals and a thread that runs through the years. Read the idea →

The right next step

A map of what helps

Sixty-eight everyday needs, such as "I can't switch off" or "I have a big decision to make", each linked to the courses and practices that help. Members, visitors and coaches use it to find where to start. Try the course finder →

A circle of care

Help that finds you

Good news travels first. When something is hard, someone who can help is invited to reach out, and the way to professional care is always close.

People beside you

A sponsor at each threshold

When a person steps into a new stage, or onto a new step of a path, someone who crossed it before walks beside them for ninety days: from the final year into a first job, from a first job into leading others, from a first draft to a finished thesis.

People beside you

Elders beside newcomers

People in the later stages of life, trained to accompany, sit with those just starting out. Walking beside others is good for the one who walks, too.

Wisdom that circulates

Letters across the years

Each group writes a letter to the group that follows it, and people write to their future selves. A newcomer's first week begins with words from someone who once stood where they stand.

A thread through the years

A yearly walk

Once a year, a short check-in with the same few questions, so a person can see how their life is moving, decade after decade, with the same companion.

Paths beside the stages

Journeys that belong to no single age

Postgraduate study, love and partnership, parenting and caring for someone run beside whatever stage a person is in, each with its own crossings, its own letters and its own people who have walked it before.

Rooms for a whole life

A community that follows your life

Rooms for your stage, your class for life, your path and what you love open by themselves as life moves on. Nobody is added; nobody is forgotten in an old list.

Many doors in

However a person arrives, the same companion carries them.

Some people will never open a wellbeing course, but they will open a running programme, a book of quotations or a good conversation. Every door leads to the same people and the same companion.

What we believe

Three convictions behind everything ACCOMPANY does.

Accompany, not rescuePeople grow by living their own lives well, with someone beside them, not by being fixed.
Invitations, not programmesA person is offered what fits and chooses what to take up.
The whole person, alwaysStudy, work, body, relationships, meaning and joy belong together.

For institutions and organisations

For any university, college or organisation that wants to walk beside its people.

Your structure

One platform, your shape

Residences, faculties, departments, teams or congregations: your groups and your calendar, on one shared platform.

Your people, trained

Mentors, coaches and teachers

Mentor training for your student leaders, the CAC for the people who coach, and PHECA for the people who teach the courses.

Programmes that fit

A sequence for your group

A four-year student pathway, a workplace programme, a leadership track or a community series, drawn from the same library and matched to the stage of life.

Results you can show

What changed, and for whom

How many took part, what they took part in, and how their wellbeing moved, measured with established questionnaires.

The arc is a loop.

The person accompanied at eighteen becomes a mentor at twenty, a coach or a teacher later, a sponsor in the middle years, and in time an elder who walks beside newcomers. What those further along have learned flows back to those just starting.

That is what no single course can deliver, and why ACCOMPANY exists.
